He's Home

I've collected Little Prince from school and he seems fine, well he's talking even more than usual and doesn't seem that much calmer to me - which is pretty normal for Little Prince lol. His teacher (well the TA who had taken the class this afternoon) asked to have a word and told me that he hadn't eaten much lunch, a known side affect of the medication is lack of appetite. Although once the medication wears off later, he should regain his appetite and have a big tea, fingers crossed! I took the teachers version of the ADHD leaflets I'd been given to school, and his new Classroom Assistant has taken it home to read tonight, tomorrow she'll bring it back so that his actual teacher can read it. His Classroom Assistant reported that he'd concentrated really well this afternoon in the French lesson, although as its her first week I don't know how that compares to an unmedicated Little Prince during French lessons! The TA also said that Little Prince had been very good this morning in class too, but that hasn't usually been one of his "problem" times as the mornings have a structured routine, which suits him. His friend D has come home with us to play, and I've let them play in Little Prince's bedroom, the state of the room when they've finished will give me a clue as to how Little Prince is!!

I also spoke to my friend who works at our Doctor's Surgery in the Pharmacy, to see if the surgery would be willing to prescribe Little Prince's new medication or if I'd have to get it from the hospital each time. She said it would depend on the individual Doctor we saw at the surgery, but assured me that the one we usually see would most likely prescribe it for us :-) That is good as he has been extremely supportive during the last 18 months or so, while we've been trying to get help for Little Prince. I have complete confidence in his judgement and in his ability to work with the hospital Consultant to give Little Prince the very best care that he needs. She also complimented me on how great Princess Lollipop's hair is looking (she is black) which I really appreciated :-) She also said her own daughter's hair is very similar in texture to Princess Lollipop's and B now has beautiful waist length ringlet curls :-)

I feel so much better now I've seen that Little Prince is still the same little boy, and not some drugged up zombie! Which is what widespread opinion would have you believe is the effect of medicating children with ADHD. Hopefully the lack of appetite won't be a long lasting side affect, and tonight he will be able to eat a normal (or bigger!) tea.

Janet--long time no comment for me. But I do keep up with you--not as often as I'd like--but I do. In one of my Yahoo groups some mom's were discussing ADHD and how to treat it without medication. A couple people with ADHD kids said the "Feingold Diet" took care of MUCH it, some said all of it. I'm sure this varies form child to child. Here's what it is" The Feingold Diet is intended for ADHC children with the goal of eliminating foods that would affect allergies and other problems ADHD children may have."

Here is a good article overview on it:

I gleaned some valuable information from this post conversation as well--it seems a preservative called BHT (I don't know the long name for it--but it's listed on the nutrition label at BHT--is some kind of anpehomine type chemical..yikes...I've cut this chemical out of Izabella's diet...she didn't have much in it anyway--but--it scared the living "xxx" out of me. :) geez....

Anywho..thought you might want to know about this. You never know--sometimes it's way simplier than we ever understood. I pray this is case--but realize you know best.

Glad to hear my bro isn't suffering any major side effects just yet :) Hope that he has a nice big dinner to make up for it. How does he feel about the medication? Just been filling D in, he worries about Little Prince too :) Hope it's calmed you down :)

Hi LisaA,
Lovely to hear from you :-) Hope you DH and Izabella are doing great :-)
Thanks for the tip, I'll look into the diet you suggest and see if it could be something that would help Little Prince :-)
Love

Hi LMS,
I can tell the medication has worn off now!! He was just running across the room pretending to be a dog and slammed straight into the patio doors and bounced off!! My crazy boy is back :-)
I'm just off to make the littlies their tea - and I'll give Little Prince extra and see if he eats it or not! Fingers crossed he will. He didn't demand a snack as soon as he entered the house after school and has "only" had a packet of crisps so far!
I do feel a LOT better now I can see that he isn't a drugged up zombie!! And that the medication DOES wear off like the Doctor said! I want to see the effect for myself over the weekend, then I think I'll properly calm down (fingers crossed).

LOL that really made me laugh :) I also just told D that he'd asked if he could work at McD's and be paid in Happy Meals, that REALLY tickled him :) Glad to hear that he's back to himself :) Guess it affected him more than you thought!

His question made the manager smile too lol. Trouble is Little Prince was totally serious!! He then decided if you work there, YOU can bring him Happy Meals home from work!! I heard him telling his friend D when they were playing, that you were going to work at Macs and bring him Happy Meals - so its made quite an impression lol

Oh that's adorable :) I'll get back and find that his whole class is expecting me to bring them Happy Meals every day, when I don't even work there! He'll be disappointed if I work anywhere else :P

Hi LMS,
Isn't it great - your career choice is being driven by your little brother lol. I probably shouldn't have asked with him there, but I didn't think he'd take it THIS seriously!! You are going to have to at least apply now though lol
